Iona, email marketing works best when you’re sending information about your book to people who already know who you are. I’d like to steer you away from sending ads to a purchased list as these messages often aren’t seen or read because they land in spam folders. You’ll do best when you determine who will love your book, and focus on reaching them and only them.

Karen, the answer is, “It depends.” If you can write a good one yourself, that part is free. If you use a press release distribution service, the cost to distribute to a large media list depends on the package you buy. The package you buy depends on how many media outlets you send it it — and you’re the one who decides that. If you create your own small media list of very targeted outlets, distribution doesn’t cost you anything.
