What a great question, Carol! The paperback version availability can give you an excuse to contact niche media outlets, topic bloggers, and topic podcasters, and a press release announcing the paperback news can be the tool you use to do that. Here’s what I’d do: I’d update the original book announcement press release (you have one, yes?) to include “now in paperback yada yada,” but I wouldn’t mass distribute it. Instead, I’d include it in a personal email to outlets you’ve handpicked because of their connection to your book’s topic. (And I clicked through on your link, ohmygosh, what a great topic you have!)

There are probably a couple of American history magazines, right? And Richmond might have a city magazine, but definitely has a daily newspaper. Then there are probably Civil War bloggers and podcasters, or at least those that write and talk about Southern or American history. I would contact them individually, with your version of, “Now that The Greatest Escape: A True American Civil War Adventure has been released in paperback, I thought you might be interested in a conversation about …” — tailoring that message to each of the outlets you contact. The Richmond city magazine will need a different angle than an American history podcaster, for example.

Also…is the book being made into a documentary or a movie? What a story!
